Wittenberg (dpa / sa) - Two smart senior women aged 81 and 97 gave fraudsters the cold shoulder on the phone and informed the police.

An 81-year-old received a call Thursday morning that her son allegedly had Corona and was being treated in the hospital, the police in Wittenberg said.

The elderly should pay money for the medication.

The lady hung up, called her family member and reported to the police.

A 97-year-old elderly woman who received a similar call shortly afterwards also recognized the scam and did not pay either.

The police are calling for the elderly to do the same and not respond to pecuniary claims from strangers.

The fraudsters took advantage of fear and worry to unscrupulously get money.
