Hamburg (dpa / sn) - In Saxony there were fewer personal bankruptcies in the Corona year 2020 than in the previous year.

Data from the credit agency Crifbürgel shows that the number of personal bankruptcies fell by 36.5 percent to 2,741.

In the previous year there were 4,315.

Across Germany, the credit agency recorded a decrease of 35.1 percent to 56,324 cases, its lowest level as of 2004. "The declining personal bankruptcies are not to be interpreted as a sign of relaxation, but as the beginning of a wave of bankruptcies," said Crifbürgel managing director Frank Schlein am Thursday.

According to him, there would have been up to 25,000 more personal insolvency proceedings in Germany in 2020 without the corona pandemic.

However, short-time work, savings and limited consumption have alleviated people's financial difficulties.
