  • Terrorism: The PSOE reinforces EH Bildu's pressure for Pedro Sánchez to transfer 163 ETA members to the prisons of the Basque Country and Navarra

The Prime Minister sought an unprecedented act in Europe, a staging of the destruction of weapons seized from terrorists.

And he cited the former presidents of democracy who had to face pressure from ETA.

But he was left alone.

None of the four attended the appointment: neither Felipe Gonzáles, nor José María Aznar, nor José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, nor Mariano Rajoy.

Neither did representatives of the political opposition attend.

And a significant sector of associations of victims of terrorism, headed by Dignidad y Justicia and Covite, did not respond to Pedro Sánchez's call, considering that it was an act of pure propaganda.

The president came surrounded by six ministers.

The holders of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and Defense, Margarita Robles, escorted them upon arrival at the event.

In his brief speech, he vindicated the memory of the victims of terrorism and their example.

And he highlighted international cooperation as one of the key tools to end ETA.

"Whoever delivers the love accepts defeat. It is the defeat of the bullets for the votes," said Sánchez.

The president defended the need to continue attending to the pending fronts.

He assured that ETA is defeated but that there are many murders to be clarified.

"We cannot forget, we cannot allow the shadow of the victims to be deformed," he said.

No minister of Podemos came from the Government.

The deputy minister of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendía, was there.

Also the Attorney General of the State, Dolores Delgado, and the heads of the National Court.

But without a doubt, the one who caught the attention of the act was the eldest of the Mossos, Josep Lluis Trapero, who attended an official act of the Government in Madrid for the first time after his acquittal by the National Court.

Minister Miquel Iceta was talking with him and with his right hand, Ferran López.

This event, which the AVT did attend, is held shortly after the central government finalized the pending fringes to transfer prison powers to the Basque Country and in the face of strong criticism from the victims for their policy of rapprochement and grade progression with the ETA prisoners.

The symbolic act in the College of Young Guards Duque de Ahumada of the Civil Guard has meant the definitive destruction with a steamroller of 1,377 complete weapons and 19 fundamental pieces that remained in the custody of the Intervention of Arms of the Madrid Civil Guard Command , competent body in this matter.

They are firearms seized by terrorist commandos of ETA and Grapo in police operations carried out in Spain, subject to indictments conducted by the different central courts of the National High Court between 1977 and 2005. In September 2016, the Government Chamber of this body The court issued a resolution authorizing the destruction of all this weaponry.

Now, more than four years later, in an act organized by the Ministry of Grande-Marlaska, chaired by President Sánchez and with a wide response and discomfort from victims of terrorism, the complete destruction is carried out by means of a steamroller of this terrorist material.

The weapons still subject to judicial proceedings still under investigation at the National High Court, those delivered by the French authorities in February 2018, which were part of some fifty judicial proceedings instituted in that country between 1999 and 2009, are excluded from this destruction order. .

Regarding the type of weapons, 697 pistols, 172 revolvers, and 274 submachine guns have been destroyed.

The rest are assault rifles, sniper rifles, and smoothbore shotguns.

After the event, all this weaponry was transferred by the Civil Guard to a foundry, where it will proceed to its final destruction.

The Intervention of Arms of the Madrid Command will draw up the minutes of the entire process, which will be reported once concluded to the National Court.
