Dresden (dpa / sn) - The planned opening of schools for all children and adolescents in Saxony before Easter provides relief.

From a pedagogical point of view, this is an important step, commented the Saxon Teachers' Association (SLV) on Thursday, the relaxation recently announced by Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU).

According to the SLV, health protection and strict observance of the infection process should continue to have top priority: "In addition to the mandatory corona tests, vaccination offers for all teachers are an important component for more safety in school operations."

SPD education expert Sabine Friedel said: “It is right now to plan further cautious steps when the school opens.

It's not just about education and grades. "

For children and adolescents, this also alleviates a great deal of emotional stress.

“The alternate model - that is, teaching in divided classes - helps protect against infection.

The schools should be given the greatest possible freedom in organizing everyday school life. "

So far, only pupils in the final grades and primary school pupils have been able to attend classes in Saxony.

With hygiene measures, the schools are now to be gradually opened to all other students.

With the exception of the primary level, however, a test should be compulsory for pupils and for all staff.

Most of the students and parents will take the news with relief, said Piwarz.

"It is a decision in the interests of the children and young people and their parents."

Self-tests should be used when testing is compulsory.

The ministry plans to procure sufficient quantities for them to be available by March 15th.

Rapid tests can also be carried out by trained staff at the same time.

Pupils from grade 5 should be tested once a week, teachers and other staff at the schools twice.

The test should either be carried out at the school itself or a current test certificate must be presented.

Those who cannot show a negative test are not allowed to take part in classroom lessons.

Almost all students have to wear a medical mask both on the school premises and in the school building if the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained, it said.

Exceptions to the mask requirement in the classroom are only available for primary school pupils and pupils in special schools or with a certificate.
