Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The left in the Magdeburg state parliament has criticized the Saxony-Anhalt step-by-step plan to exit the lockdown.

The question arises why increasing the vaccination rate is not at the center of the considerations, said the left parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern on Thursday evening at a special session of parliament.

In the current so-called Saxony-Anhalt Plan, the subject of vaccination is only addressed twice, said von Angern.

It is about appeals to the willingness to vaccinate.

The left-wing politician called for specific changes to vaccinate faster.

As an example, she cited a nationwide vaccination in doctor's offices and clinics as well as an active direct letter from persons entitled to vaccinate.

Eva von Angern pointed out that the Burgenland District, among others, had had good experiences with this strategy and that many of those who had been contacted accepted the vaccination appointment that was offered.

Saxony-Anhalt has been working on a step-by-step plan for a long time, which should provide a perspective on how social life can be restarted by the end of this year.

The first easing is expected to take place on March 8th, and the next consequences could be two weeks later if the infection rate does not worsen significantly.

Together with Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt is one of the most heavily polluted federal states.

At the beginning of the special session, Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) defended the approach of the federal and state governments.

There can only be openings if it is combined with a higher vaccination rate and a test strategy.

Saxony-Anhalt will initially invest one million euros to purchase additional rapid tests for school staff, added Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD).

At the same time, the search for self-tests that are also approved for smaller children and adolescents under the age of 16 and are easy to use is ongoing.

The Greens parliamentary group leader Cornelia Lüddemann criticized that Saxony-Anhalt is too slow in the procurement of self-tests and quick tests.

For weeks she has been promoting the possibility of securing purchase options for various test kit offers at an early stage.

Other federal states would have done that.
