Koblenz (dpa / lrs) - In the Koblenz trial against the first alleged IS returnee from Rhineland-Palatinate, the verdict is expected today.

The defense has called for a sentence that would mean the end of her time behind bars for the woman.

According to the plea, this should include the approximately one year pre-trial detention in Germany and the roughly as long time previously in a camp in Syria.

The public prosecutor in Koblenz had demanded three years imprisonment before the higher regional court.

The indictment accuses the 30-year-old mother of membership in a terrorist group.

She was a member of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia from 2014 to 2019.

According to the attorney general's office, she asked to emigrate to the IS caliphate and made propaganda for the IS.

During the trial, the German admitted that in an online post in 2015 she had incited against life in Germany and democracy and urged Muslims to leave the country.

In the meantime, she feels sorry for this.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the young woman traveled pregnant from Idar-Oberstein via Turkey to Syria in 2014 after converting to Islam.

One after the other, she is said to have been married to four IS fighters and to have supported their actions.

Three died in combat.

Their three children are now living in foster families.

According to the indictment, the 30-year-old was arrested by Kurdish forces in 2019 and deported from Turkey to Germany with her children in January 2020.
