Castel said that in the past three weeks, the incidence of new crowns in the three provinces of Hautes-Alpes, Aisne and Aube has continued to rise. It has now exceeded the alert threshold and must be monitored.
As a result, the number of severely affected provinces with increased surveillance has increased from 20 last week to 23.
To curb the further spread of the virus, control measures in these 23 provinces will be tightened.
Castel announced that non-food shopping malls with more than 10,000 square meters in these provinces will be closed, and the measure will take effect this weekend.
At the same time, the governors of these provinces should take measures to restrict activities held in public places, especially during weekends.
In addition, people in all cities in these provinces are required to wear masks when traveling.
Castels also announced that the Pas-de-Calais province in northern France will implement a weekend "closed city" starting this week, and that the local non-food shopping center with more than 5,000 square meters will be closed.
He believes that there is no need to implement weekend "cities closures" in all provinces that have strengthened surveillance, but people in these provinces must be more vigilant.
The areas "closed" over the weekend now include multiple cities in the Alpes-Maritimes province, the surrounding area of Dunkirk and the Pas-de-Calais province.
Castel revealed that French officials will give priority to the distribution of 135,000 doses of the new crown vaccine to 23 provinces with enhanced surveillance to speed up the vaccination rate in these provinces.
He asked relevant provinces to deploy and use the priority vaccine as soon as possible.
He said that currently more than 3.2 million people in France have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
France’s latest vaccination goal is to vaccinate 10 million people by mid-April.
According to the latest epidemic data, France has 25,279 new confirmed cases on the 4th, and a total of 3,835,595 confirmed cases; the cumulative number of deaths is now 87,835, and there are 293 new deaths.
