Mainz (dpa / lrs) - According to a survey, education and health are the most important issues for the Rhineland-Palatinate people in the state elections.

This was the result of a representative survey by the polling institute Forsa on behalf of Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), which was carried out just two months before the election on March 14th.

96 percent of the respondents named the education policy very important or important and 92 percent the health policy, as the TK reported to the German press agency in Mainz.

"Energy policy" (87 percent), "internal security" (82 percent) and "family policy" follow, on par with the "creation of framework conditions to secure economic growth" (79 percent). "

In the pandemic, two thirds (67 percent) classified national debt as important or very important.

"A better regional distribution of medical practices - especially in the area" - that was of great importance for 95 percent of the survey participants, said the TK.

For 94 percent, it is urgently necessary to make the nursing profession more attractive.

To invest more in the country's clinics, 90 percent of those surveyed thought it was appropriate, as the TK announced.

For a complex operation, 93 percent would prefer a hospital with extensive experience, even if they had to go further.

Only six percent are closer to home than specialization.

The number of beds in a clinic is only a decisive criterion for one in five when deciding on a hospital.

Three quarters of those questioned wanted more outpatient treatments to be possible.

"To close specialist departments or to merge them with departments of other hospitals in order to concentrate staff, 82 percent of Rhineland-Palatinate preferred over the possibility of being treated in an understaffed department," says the TK statement.

This also applies if they have to travel longer distances.
