Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After three months with limited daycare care, the daycare centers in Rhineland-Palatinate are to return to regular operations on March 15.

Until then, the appeal remains to send children to daycare only when there is an urgent need for care, as the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday in Mainz.

All preschool children are invited to visit daycare from next Monday.

"The transition between daycare and elementary school is a big step for children," said Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD).

"In order to prepare this transition with and for our preschool children well, they can return to their daycare centers a week earlier."

In this way, the children could spend as much time as possible in familiar facilities before school.

Children, "for whom the current situation is particularly stressful", could now come back to their daycare more often.

The transition to regular operation under Corona conditions from mid-March is subject to the condition that the infection process allows this step.

Until then, the educators would have "largely the protection of the first vaccination," said the ministry.

Depending on the situation on site, however, there could always be restrictions on the childcare offer - especially during the time when the children are being brought and picked up.

The ministry announced that the decisions had already been coordinated with the top day care center.

This round connects the Ministry of Education with the daycare providers, parent representatives and representatives of the educators.

"I am very pleased that we can take these next steps together in the day-care center", said Hubig.
