Schwerin / Heiligendamm (dpa / mv) - The chief physician of the Median Clinic in Heiligendamm, Jördis Frommhold, has been named "Woman of the Year 2021" in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

She will be honored for her outstanding commitment to clarifying the long-term consequences of Covid 19 diseases and the successful use of rehabilitation medicine, said Minister of Social Affairs Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Thursday.

With less than 40 years of age, Frommhold is one of the youngest chief physicians in Germany and, as one of the leading experts in the so-called Long Covid disease, looks after patients from all over Germany.

They are often desperate when they struggle with the long-term consequences.

With a view to equality, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) said at the digital ceremony that she does not believe that women will be thrown back in the corona pandemic.

But the pandemic clearly shows where women are still disadvantaged compared to men.

"We have to fight for improvements."
