Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Corona rapid tests for self-application will not be available to buy immediately in pharmacies in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The orders started, a spokesman for the pharmacists' association announced on Thursday.

"But it will take some time before the pharmacies can offer the relevant goods."

At the moment the pharmacies are trying to get the tests, but none of the approved tests are yet listed at the pharmaceutical wholesalers.

So far, a total of six corona tests for self-use by laypeople have been approved.

The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices issued the first three special approvals a few days ago.

The demand is currently "not yet incredibly high," said the spokesman for the pharmacists' association.

This also depends on the extent to which the self-tests will be anchored in the national test strategy in the future.

"At this point, there is still a user perspective missing."

The self-tests serve more to "feel good", but there is no written confirmation of the result, as is the case with the rapid tests, which are carried out by trained staff.

The drug dealer Krieger in Koblenz, however, did not provide any precise information about possible deliveries.

"Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide any current assessments of delivery dates, quantities and prices," said a spokeswoman on Thursday upon request.

In discount stores, the first such tests should go on sale on Saturday.

Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd announced on Wednesday that customers can then get the tests produced in Germany at the checkout.

The drugstore chains Rossmann and dm want to start selling next Tuesday.
