2019 - National coach Joachim Löw drives the upheaval of the national soccer team and dismisses three former world champions from the team: Jérôme Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller from Munich.

Müller in particular complains about a lack of appreciation.

2009 - The reconstruction of the Neues Museum on Museum Island in Berlin is complete.

70 years after its closure, the Neues Museum is officially handed over.

2006 - Former Serb leader Milan Babic, sentenced to 13 years in prison by the war crimes tribunal in The Hague, commits suicide in prison.

Babic had been convicted of crimes against non-Serb civilians in eastern Croatia.

1996 - The Berlin district court sentenced serial killer Thomas Rung to double life imprisonment and subsequent preventive detention.

The 35-year-old admitted killing seven people.

1981 - 141 visitors to the Nuremberg youth center "Komm" are arrested by the police after a demonstration with broken window panes and detained for days.

The mass arrest turns into a legal scandal, as hardly any of the young people can be proven to have even participated in the demonstration.

1966 - Udo Jürgens brings the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson to Austria in his third attempt with “Merci, Chérie”.

The winning title becomes a global hit with top positions in more than 20 countries.

1946 - Winston Churchill (British Prime Minister 1940-1945 and 1951-1955) coined the term "Iron Curtain" for the political division of Europe after the Second World War.

1931 - The play "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" by Carl Zuckmayer is premiered in Berlin.

1906 - The Museum of Oceanography is opened in Berlin in the presence of the Emperor.

Destroyed in World War II, the museum will not reopen later.
