Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Berlin Senate met for a special session on Thursday afternoon to discuss how to proceed with the corona pandemic.

The lockdown is expected to be extended until the end of March, as the federal and state governments agreed in principle when they switched to video on Wednesday.

At the same time, however, there should be further easing steps and an opening perspective for retail and the cultural sector, for example.

Corresponding demands were recently heard louder and louder.

It is also conceivable that there will be easing of the contact restrictions in Berlin, which the group of country leaders had agreed on with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

After that, it should be possible to meet your own household with another household again from next week.

At the moment, private get-togethers are only allowed within your own household with another person.

The Senate intends to announce the details at a press conference after the meeting.

The first steps towards opening after the lockdown came into force in mid-December have already been taken in Berlin: Since Monday, the hairdressing salons have been allowed to reopen despite the ongoing corona pandemic.

And since February 22nd, the children of the first three grades have been allowed to go back to school at least partially, alternating with digital learning at home and in smaller study groups.

The 4th to 6th grades should follow from March 9th, according to the Berlin Education Administration.

The daycare centers in Berlin should then be open to all children again.
