Munich (dpa / lby) - Actually, the students in Bavaria should have received their interim certificates three weeks ago.

But because of the corona pandemic, the half-yearly reports will not be distributed until this Friday.

And not to all children and young people, but only to those who have lessons in the school building that day.

The rest of them will get the certificate sooner, later - or by post.

There are also several exceptions.

Most of the 1.65 million Bavarian schoolchildren are still in alternating or even distance learning.

The result: only some of them will be in schools on Friday.

As usual, these students receive their certificates personally.

If you are in alternating lessons, you will usually receive the paper the next day with face-to-face tuition, for most of them this is Monday.

Depending on the type of school, the allocation can also be brought forward to the previous day of attendance.

"And everyone who is in distance learning will receive the certificates by post," added a spokesman for the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

That was different in the summer - at that time everyone had to pick up their certificates personally at their school on the last day of school.

"Interim certificates are not a document in the legal sense like a diploma," said the ministry spokesman, explaining the reason for the divergent approach.

This is why it is also possible in elementary schools and in grades five to seven of secondary schools to replace interim certificates with so-called learning development interviews.

This is decided by the schools themselves, in some cases the modus operandi differs from class to class.

In any case, the fourth grades only receive interim information about the performance level before the transfer certificates are due on May 7th.

In grades five to eight of secondary schools and grammar schools, the interim certificates can be replaced by two pieces of written information about the grades - this is compulsory at business schools this year.

The eleventh grades at the technical and vocational schools (FOS / BOS) also do not receive an interim report because their performance over the entire school year forms the grades for the two identical semi-annual reports.

In addition, grades 12 and 13 of FOS / BOS will not receive their interim certificates until March 12th.

And that's not all of the exceptions: The ninth grade of the secondary schools can receive the certificate a second time until the end of April, provided that sufficient proof of performance in the examination subjects is available by then.

Otherwise, the same sentence remains, which pupils from other types of schools are likely to read more often this year despite the greatly reduced number of samples: "In subject XY, due to the pandemic, it was not yet possible to collect enough performance records for a meaningful certificate grade."
