Göttingen (dpa / lni) - After a whole series of arson attacks and fraud, a 24-year-old is on trial in Göttingen from today (11.00 a.m.).

In 16 cases, the young man is said to have set gazebos, barns and straw bales on fire, according to the Göttingen regional court.

He is said to be responsible for a series of fires in Einbeck in the Northeim district last summer.

The investigators got on the trail of the alleged perpetrator because he was photographed by a wildlife camera during a fire in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene.

The property damage is said to amount to around 350,000 euros.

According to the court, the man is charged with a total of 50 criminal offenses: In one case, he is said to have kept a car that he had borrowed from a car dealership for an alleged test drive.

In 33 cases it is about fraud - he is said to have stayed in hotels and refueled without paying.

According to the court, the damage is 14,600 euros.

The 24-year-old is on remand.

A total of six process days are planned.

A few days after the first fires, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested and released from custody.

She is said to have set fire to old clothes containers.
