Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The relegation-threatened VfB Lübeck surprisingly defeated the promotion candidate FC Hansa Rostock and left the last place in the table in the 2nd football league.
In a catch-up game on Wednesday evening, the Lübeckers defeated the favorites 1-0 (0-0) in the home stadium at the Lohmühle and swapped places with SpVgg Unterhaching at the bottom of the table.
VfB is only three points behind a non-promotion place.
Soufian Benyamina scored the goal of the day (48th minute).
VfB coach Rolf-Martin Landerl had nominated two new players against the second division contender, who had previously been unbeaten eight times: Pascal Steinwender and Ryan Malone replaced Sebastian Hertner and Martin Röser.
The hoped-for offensive swing initially failed to materialize, because the Baltic Derby began very disorganized.
By the 24th minute there had already been three yellow cards, various injury breaks and a substitution.

Hansa Rostock, who had exhausted their substitution quota early on, was about to equalize through Nico Neidhart, but VfB goalkeeper Lukas Raeder cleared strongly with a defensive foot (76th).
With the first win after four defeats in a row, the Lübeck team drew new courage.
