New statistics from Statistics Sweden (SCB) show that Enköping was the municipality that saw the largest increase in population in 2020. The municipality had a total of 953 more people compared with the year before.
It is above all a certain age group that moves in according to Ingvar Smedlund, chairman of Enköping's municipal board.
- It is mainly middle-aged couples with children who move in here, he says.
Statistics Sweden's statistics also show that Uppsala County was alone in seeing a positive increase in all municipalities.
Low birth rates
The municipality that saw the least increase in population was Östhammar.
Jacob Spangenberg believes that there are several underlying factors for this.
Among other things, the municipality has had problems with water and sewers, which makes it difficult to grant building permits, especially in the eastern parts of the municipality.
But there were more factors.
- Unusually few children have been born during the past year, says Jacob Spangenberg.
