Just two weeks ago, bird flu was discovered in a turkey herd in Skivarp.

The Swedish Board of Agriculture has therefore decided on protection level 3 in large parts of Skurup municipality.

This means that birds must be kept indoors and prevented from coming into contact with other facilities.

Also hobby birds

- Hobby birds, such as parrots, pigeons and chickens, must also be kept indoors, says Lotta Berg.

She states that Skåne is particularly hard hit by bird flu this season.

- There have been a total of six cases and that is an unusual number.

The virus is still present among the wild birds, and it is important to protect their animals.

Spread throughout Europe

The County Administrative Board has no explanation for why there are so many outbreaks of bird flu right now.

- There is a large spread of infection throughout Europe and the birds move between the countries.

Is there any connection to the ongoing corona pandemic?

- No, it does not, says county veterinarian Lotta Berg.
