Ostia (AP) - Water polo record champion Spandau 04 narrowly missed a sensational victory against four-time winner Jug Dubrovnik in the Champions League.

After the 7: 7 against CN Marseille on Monday and the 12: 6 against the Italian club CC Ortigia on Tuesday, the Berliners lost on Wednesday evening after a strong performance against the Croatian favorites 10:12 (3: 3.2: 3.2: 3 , 3: 3).

The German record champions will face Olympiacos on Thursday.

“That was another good game for us, in which we unfortunately didn't reward ourselves any more in the end.

In the third quarter we lost a bit of the pressure and gave Jug a few stupid presents, ”said Spandau's manager Peter Röhle after the third match within three days in the Champions League main round group A in Ostia.

“Against Piraeus, we want to continue our flow at the end.

As the results show, the world of water polo is in motion at the moment.

We want to get involved, ”said Röhle.

The goals for Spandau against Jug Dubrovnik were scored by Dmitri Kholod (3), Marko Stamm, Mateo Cuk (2 each), Nikola Dedovic, Lucas Gielen and Marin Restovic (1 each).
