“Molecular genetic monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 strains has been organized in the Russian Federation, while the Nigerian variant of the coronavirus has not been registered in Russia.
The situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor, ”RIA Novosti reports.
The department clarified that basically this variant of COVID-19 is spread in Nigeria and at the level of no more than tenths of a percent in other countries.
Earlier in the Italian city of Brescia, a new strain of coronavirus was discovered that may be resistant to existing vaccines.
The new strain was named "Nigerian".
