In the so-called “conspiracy against the state” case, it will ultimately be up to the Supreme Court to decide following the prosecution's appeal announced on Wednesday 3 March.

The activist Ras Bath and four other defendants still in detention will therefore remain in prison pending a decision from the highest court in the country.

Former Prime Minister Boubou Cissé and Sékou Traoré for a time secretary general of the presidency are still at large.

After an additional night spent in prison by their clients, defense lawyers in the state destabilization case went to the Bamako Court of Appeal on Wednesday in large numbers.

The objective: to inquire with the Attorney General of the state of the case after the annulment of the proceedings by the indictment chamber.

"

There was a judgment of the indictment chamber, he [the prosecution] appealed to challenge this judgment.

We do not know for what reason the appeal was made, except the avowed reason which is to prevent the execution of the judgment, which was told to us at least very clearly.

So things in this regard are clear

.

"

Since the opening of this case, Advocate General Idrissa Arizo Maiga has always requested that the defendants be kept in detention so as not to hinder the investigation, according to the prosecution.

Aguibou Tall, Robert Vital Diop, Mahamadou Koné, Souleymane Kansaye, senior officials of the Malian administration or society, as well as Sékou Traoré, former secretary general of the presidency and Boubou Cissé, former prime minister are accused of "conspiracy" against the authorities of the transition.

Added to this are the charges of contempt of the head of state for the activist Ras Bath.

More than on the merits of the case, it will be up to the Supreme Court to decide whether the proceedings continue or not.

No date has been announced for this hearing which should be held behind closed doors.
