It was sung.

The usual lack of snow that characterizes the winters of the Sierra de Guadarrama has made the Puerto de Navacerrada ski resort unviable.

The order of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, MITECO, was something that could be seen coming.

The absence of snow, a consequence of climate change, is notable in the whole of the Sierra de Guadarrama, mountains that, due to their low altitude and their logical increase in temperatures, have seen snowfall decrease in the last half century.

The phenomenon is especially dramatic in the surroundings of Puerto de Navacerrada, a mountain pass that marks the border between Madrid and Castilla y León, where the domain of the ski resort extends.

At the limited altitude of this environment, an inclement wind must join, which volatilizes the snow as soon as it falls.

The result is the bare slopes of the essential element for the practice of white sport.

To remedy this, a battery of snow-producing cannons was installed in the 90s, but not even for that, since these mills

need a minimum temperature so that the water they expel turns into snow.

Since 1970, the average temperature has increased by 1.95ºC, reducing the amount of snowfall by 25 percent.

This has meant that, since the beginning of the third millennium, the usual thing has been to open only the tracks in the lower part of the station, remaining unused except for a few days those located in the upper part, the slopes of Las Guarramillas, the popular Bola del Mundo .

The Sierra de Guadarrama National Park was created in 2013 with scrupulous care to leave the domain of the station outside its limits.

The route was severely criticized by scientists and environmentalists, who considered it artificial and unsustainable.

Now, MITECO has listened to the conclusions of the National Parks Autonomous Organization, communicating to the Junta de Castilla y León that it will not renew

the administrative concession granted on April 3, 1996 for 25 years, "because it is not viable."

The Ministry urges to dismantle the facilities of the Escaparate, Telegrafo and El Bosque tracks.

Apart from the logical mechanical lifts, various constructions are included, a treadmill which, incidentally, lacks authorization,

a tank, the compressors, the air and water pipes and the cannons of the artificial innovation system,

"with a deadline that ends October 30, 2021 ".

In the same way, the openings in the forest for the layout of the aforementioned tracks must be replanted to offer the same appearance as the forest masses around the station.
