Essen (AP) - Holstein Kiel is for the first time in its club history in the round of the best four in the DFB Cup.

The second division won his quarter-final match 3-0 (2-0) at Rot-Weiss Essen from the Regionalliga and thus made it to the semi-finals.

With a double strike within 120 seconds, the guests of coach Ole Werner made the preliminary decision on Hafenstraße: First, Alexander Mühling (26th minute) converted a highly controversial penalty kick, then Janni Serra increased (28th).

Joshua Mees (90th) put the finishing touches.

The Kiel team had defeated the record cup winners FC Bayern Munich on penalties in the second round and also prevailed against SV Darmstadt 98 on penalties in the round of 16.
