Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - In the trial of the death of the daycare child Greta before the Mönchengladbach regional court, the public prosecutor's office pleaded for a life sentence for the accused kindergarten teacher.

A spokesman for the regional court said the prosecution also requested the determination of the particular gravity of the guilt on Tuesday.

In the trial, a 25-year-old educator is charged with murder.

She is said to have compressed the chest of the girl Greta in April 2020 in the daycare center in Viersen during the afternoon nap until she stopped breathing.

The three-year-old died in hospital two weeks later.

The German is also accused of mistreating those wards in eight other cases.

Already in other daycare centers, she is said to have pressed the chests of children tightly and thus put their lives in danger.

The process started in mid-November.

The 25-year-old rejected all allegations in a defense attorney's statement at the beginning of the trial.

The motions of the co-plaintiffs and the defense should follow on Tuesday.
