Iran has warned of any Western action contrary to its expectations, renewing the call for the lifting of sanctions and the return of the United States to the nuclear deal.

While Tehran called on Washington to demonstrate goodwill, the White House expressed its disappointment at Iran's rejection of a European proposal for informal talks.

"We warn against any Western action that contradicts our expectations, as it will affect diplomatic efforts," Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said Tuesday morning.

Rabiei added that Washington must take steps to prove goodwill and build confidence, but it has not moved in this direction and has refused to date to take steps, considering that Washington cannot claim that it is seeking diplomacy before the sanctions on Iran are lifted.

"Our partners in the nuclear deal should urge Washington to return to the agreement," the Iranian government spokesman added, noting that there is no option other than diplomacy to resolve differences, but it must be based on goodwill and honesty.

Rabiei also assured the world that Iran's nuclear program will remain a peaceful program under legal international supervision, he said.

In Washington, White House spokeswoman Gene Saki expressed the United States' disappointment at Iran's rejection of a European proposal to hold informal talks on returning to the nuclear deal.

Sacchi added that Washington is ready to return to diplomacy with Tehran to achieve a joint return to the nuclear deal.

In turn, the US representative to the UN Security Council, Linda Thomas Greenfield, affirmed that her country is ready to return to the nuclear agreement if Iran fully complies.
