After more than four years of construction, the people of Gothenburg can finally cross the river on the new bridge.

But the trams have to wait until after the summer.

On the one hand, the tracks must be connected, and on the other hand, the public transport ramps must be completed.

Since the old Göta river bridge is to be demolished, this means that tram traffic between Hisingen and the mainland will be replaced by buses between 12 June and 15 August.

Until the opening, a lot of work is underway on the new bridge, such as installing railings, barriers and lighting.

There is also some paving work and line painting left.

Tests remain

At the same time, final tests of machinery and lifting buckets must be performed.

Just before the turn of the year, it turned out that the lifting bucket could not be closed completely correctly.

Since then, a feverish activity has been going on to correct what appears to be a design error that has already occurred at the drawing board.

The plan was to install hydraulic dampers that would help the team get it right.

- It has gone well.

We received a delivery of dampers that were put there.

As I understood it, it turned out to be a very good solution.

So now the lifting bucket works automatically, as it was intended, says Alexandra Wattwill, press officer at the Traffic Office in Gothenburg.
