Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Russia will respond to European and American sanctions

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a severely worded statement on the evening of March 2 local time in response to the new round of sanctions launched by the United States and the European Union against Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that the US government is currently trapped in its own internal problems and therefore is trying to establish an image of external hostility.

The Russian side has repeatedly commented on this approach, believing that the US's actions lack logic and meaning and will only make bilateral relations more tense.

The statement emphasized that the US sanctions against Russia on the pretext of the so-called Navaline poisoning incident and chemical weapons is a flagrant interference in Russia's internal affairs.

Facts have proved that the United States' past attempts to pressure Russia through sanctions or other means have all ended in failure.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned the United States not to instigate confrontation, not to "play with fire", and to honestly fulfill its international obligations including the destruction of chemical weapons.

The United States is a breaching party to a series of international treaties and has no right to point fingers at other countries.

The statement pointed out that no matter what sanctions the United States adopts, Russia will, as always, resolutely defend its national interests, and Russia will respond "not necessarily equal" to the sanctions.
