Potsdam (dpa / b) - The preparations for the state horticultural show next year in Beelitz (Potsdam-Mittelmark) are making good progress.

You are on the home stretch, said Agriculture Minister Axel Vogel (Greens) on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting.

These events promoted the image, identity and level of awareness of a municipality.

The state horticultural show will start in Beelitz on April 14, 2022 until the end of October under the motto “Garden Festival for All the Senses”.

A 15 hectare site will be turned into a leisure and recreation area.

Last autumn, 60 capped and white willows as well as elms, mulberry and fruit trees were planted.

Perennial perennials are planted on 4800 square meters.

The Ministry of Agriculture has so far provided around 6.5 million euros from the EU and the state for investments in preparation for the State Horticultural Show.

In addition, there are 700,000 euros in state funds to support the presentation of the horticultural profession.

Sustainability is at the forefront of all investments, said the Mayor of Beelitz, Bernhard Knuth (citizens' alliance).

The show also offers a great opportunity to sensitize people to climate protection, for example through the preservation of biodiversity and sustainable irrigation methods.

The selection process for the State Garden Show 2026, which the state intends to continue to support from existing funding programs, is now underway.

By April 2022, it should be clear which city will then be the host.

There have been six state horticultural shows in Brandenburg since 2000.
