Kiel (AP) - The handball players of THW Kiel have won their Champions League home game against the Slovenian representative RK Celje.

With the 33:29 (19:15) the German record champions improved on Tuesday with 14:12 points to third place in the preliminary round group B. The best throwers of the zebras were Niclas Ekberg and Magnus Landin with five hits each.

Tadej Mazej was successful six times for the Slovenes.

After a good start to the game, the hosts made a few mistakes.

Among other things, Sven Ehrig and Steffen Weinhold failed three times in the first half completely detached to Celje's goalkeeper Miljan Vujovic.

On the defensive, too, things didn't go optimally for THW coach Filip Jicha's team.

In this way, the guests were able to keep in touch until the final phase.

In the 55th minute, Celje had again reduced to two goals at 29:31.

So the Kiel, where playmaker Domagoj Duvnjak and goalkeeper Niklas Landin were spared, had to fight to the end to make the deserved perfect.

Sander Sagosen made the decision with a 32:29 (58th).
