Iraq begins vaccination with the Corona vaccine, after receiving the first shipments of the Chinese "Sinopharm"

Yesterday, Iraqi hospitals began vaccinating against the Corona virus, hours after the Chinese "Sinopharm" vaccine arrived in the country.

The state-run Al-Iraqiya TV stated that the "Corona vaccination" process began in (the capital), Baghdad.

And the Ministry of Health and Environment in Iraq had given priority in vaccination to medical teams, security forces, the army and elderly citizens, while a form was announced allowing citizens to register voluntarily, to receive the vaccine for free.

Preparations are being made for the arrival of other shipments of the vaccine, according to Iraq's contracts with international companies.

Earlier, the Iraqi Minister of Health and Environment, Hassan Al-Tamimi, announced the arrival of the first shipments of the "Sinopharma" vaccine to Iraq at dawn yesterday.

"We received a shipment of Sinopharma vaccine, in the presence of the Chinese ambassador to Baghdad, the personal secretary of the prime minister, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Al-Bayati, and the commander of the air force," Al-Tamimi said in a statement published on the ministry's official website.

He added, "It was agreed with the ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Iraq to supply two million new doses of Sinopharma vaccine, in an urgent manner, in addition to the rest of the ministry's previous contracts, to cover the largest percentage of citizens in our country."

The Iraqi Minister thanked the government and people of the Republic of China.

"Iraq has approved three companies: Sinopharm, AstraZeneca and Pfizer," the minister said.

As for Pfizer, we are waiting for the Iraqi parliament this week to pass the law, and within days it will arrive.

With regard to the Kovacs facility, which is AstraZeneca, we have completed the procedures and paid the sums, and we have paid the sums for transporting the vaccine to Baghdad, and it will arrive within days. ”

Last month, Iraq recorded a significant increase in cases of "Covid-19", including confirmed cases of one of the new strains of the virus.
