Hamburg (dpa) - The North Chamber of Commerce and Industry called for an opening perspective for the North German economy before the federal-state meeting on Wednesday.

This applies above all to the sectors particularly affected, such as retail, services, tourism, gastronomy, events and the cultural industry, said IHK-Nord chairman Norbert Aust on Tuesday.

"A step-by-step plan would now help companies and create planning security and stability."

According to its own information, the IHK Nord represents around 700,000 companies in the five northern German states.

The plan should not only be based on the incidence value.

It should also be taken into account that, according to the Robert Koch Institute, hotels and retail, for example, are not considered drivers of the pandemic.

In the tourism industry in particular, rapid tests and digital solutions such as access and booking systems could offer further opportunities for opening up.

The expansion of the outdoor areas should already be planned for the catering trade.

"We assume that a renewed failure of the Easter business will no longer be manageable for many companies - every day now counts so that the diversity of the tourism industry in the north is preserved," said Aust.
