Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) honored Mikhail Gorbachev on his 90th birthday as one of the great shapers of global politics in the 20th century.
"In North Rhine-Westphalia we mainly remember his visit to the Dortmund Westfalenhütte, where around 9,000 steel workers from Hoesch AG welcomed him in June 1989," said Laschet on Tuesday.
At that time Gorbachev said: "The main thing is to meet the desire to meet one another, to trust one another more, to fight together for a better world."
Laschet warned: "We should also remember that today."
