Dortmund qualified for the semi-finals of the German Cup on Tuesday by winning 1-0 at Mönchengladbach thanks to Jadon Sancho, in a competition more open than ever since the elimination of Bayern Munich in the round of 16 .

In this "shock of Borussia", Dortmund confirmed their return to form after their big slump in December / January, which dropped them to 5th position in the championship to 13 points behind leader Bayern.

The "Borussens" will now have to share the role of favorite with the winner of the other big poster of these quarter-finals, between the second in the Bundesliga Leipzig and the third Wolfsburg (Wednesday 8:45 pm).

Sancho scored the only goal of the match at the conclusion of a backlash, started from a corner from Mönchengladbach and relayed to a touch of the ball by Erling Haaland and Marco Reus (1-0, 66th).

Unusually, the prodigy Haaland failed twice in the evening in his "special": launched in depth alone against the goalkeeper, he did not frame (36th), then saw his shot deflected by the goalkeeper Tobias Sippel (83rd ).

(Sippel keeps Mönchengladbach's goals in the cup, while the league and Champions League holder is Swiss national team goalkeeper Yann Sommer.)

Behind closed doors at Borussia Park, the game was relatively closed, with the two teams visibly fearful of each other, and for more than an hour striving not to take risks.

Scrutinized by all the media, Mönchengladbach coach Marco Rose has in any case failed to teach his future assistant a lesson, since he will be on the Dortmund bench next season, while Edin Terzic, the current BVB technician, will become his assistant.

The other quarter-final scheduled for Tuesday was postponed sine die after the detection of several cases of Covid-19 in the Jahn Regensburg (D2) team, which was to host Werder Bremen.

In the last match, Bayern Munich striker Holstein Kiel (D2), will be the favorite on Wednesday against Rot-Weiss Essen, the little Thumb of the fourth division (6.30 p.m.).
