Minden / Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - Five years after the fire in a Westfleisch slaughterhouse in Paderborn, the city and the company are arguing about the assumption of part of the extinguishing costs.

The administrative court in Minden will negotiate on March 10th whether a cost decision of 53,000 euros is legal, as the court announced on Tuesday.

Westfleisch denies a claim of the city and asserts that the resources invoiced in June 2019 were not necessary.

According to the law, fire services do not have to be paid for.

But there are exceptions.

For example, when special extinguishing agents are used in industrial or commercial operations.

The city of Paderborn asserts the costs for this.

The slaughterhouse was destroyed in the fire and was never rebuilt.

Up to this point in time, around 1300 cattle and 30,000 pigs were slaughtered in Paderborn with 600 employees per week.

Westfleisch, based in Münster, is a cooperative and had a turnover of 2.79 billion euros for 2019.
