Cologne (dpa / lnw) - A fake policewoman was sentenced to three years and three months in prison by the Cologne regional court on Tuesday.

In camouflage, the 28-year-old had robbed seniors of cash and gold with a total value of around 220,000 euros.

She was found guilty of professional gang fraud along with presumption of office.

In the acts between January 2019 and August 2019, three people between the ages of 65 and 88 were victims of the scam.

Two other seniors had become suspicious and refused to hand over cash and gold.

According to the verdict, the woman acted as a picker in the "fraud system false police officer on the phone".

Although she was not the "mastermind" of the gang.

However, the presiding judge underlined: "Without your cooperation, the deeds would not have taken place."

In the scam "fake policeman on the phone" callers pose as police officers to their victims and pretend to warn them about burglar gangs.

Under the pretext of wanting to bring cash and other hoarded valuables to safety, they induce their victims to hand them over to them.

The loot reached the actual masterminds in Turkey via middlemen, according to the verdict.

The defendant had confessed comprehensively and spared the victims a testimony in court.

Following the judgment, the arrest warrant was suspended, subject to conditions.

The woman left the district court after seven months of pre-trial detention.

An appeal can be lodged against the judgment.
