The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued a decree this evening, Tuesday, to form a new government, after the current government submitted its resignation last January following a crisis with the National Assembly.
Kuwait News Agency reported that Prince Al-Sabah had agreed to form a government.
The new formation will witness the creation of two new portfolios, namely the Ministry of State for Integrity Promotion Affairs and the Ministry of State for Communications and Information Technology.
On December 14, the current government - in charge of conducting business - was sworn in, and on January 18 the previous year, the Emir accepted its resignation.
The resignation came a week after the presentation of a parliamentary questioning against Prime Minister Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah for committing what the deputies considered "stalling in presenting his work program."
Prince Nawwaf reassigned Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to form the government on January 24th.
On February 17, the Emir of Kuwait issued a decree to postpone holding the National Assembly (Parliament) meetings for a month.
The postponement came, according to observers, after the escalation of the dispute between the opposition and the government following the delay in completing the ministerial formation.
The Amiri decree came at the time in light of discrepancies regarding the validity of the sessions being held in the presence of the resigned government, especially since the government must be formed within two weeks so that a constitutional vacuum does not occur.
