Berlin (dpa / bb) - Bundesliga basketball team Alba Berlin missed a surprise in the Euroleague.

On Tuesday evening, the Berliners kept up with the Russian top club Zenit St. Petersburg until the last quarter, but lost 71:87 (48:43) in front of 2394 spectators.

After the 18th defeat in the 28th game, Alba remains in 16th place in the premier class.

The best throwers from Berlin were Luke Sikma with 18 and Simone Fontecchio with 12 points.

Coach Aito Garcia Reneses only had to do without the long-term injuries Jayson Granger and Louis Olinde.

Although it was Alba’s third game in just five days, they were very focused from the start.

Alba often won the ball, especially on the defensive.

In the first quarter they were mostly just ahead.

Nothing changed in the second section.

Both teams scored well from a distance.

Alba withstood the pressure and even managed to break away in double digits for the first time after 13 minutes (43:33).

But the hosts, who are still fighting for a playoff place, shortened before the break.

Alba was initially unimpressed after the break, and in the middle of the third section they pulled away again, this time on eleven points (61:50).

But then St. Petersburg countered with a 13-0 run, and the game was turned.

Now the defensive ranks dominated again - especially those of the hosts.

The Berliners only got four meager points in the last section, the hosts, on the other hand, scored almost everything.
