San Diego / El Centro (dpa) - According to a team of doctors, 15 people died in a serious accident with a truck and an off-road vehicle in southern California.

More people were injured, said Judy Cruz from the emergency department of the Regional Medical Center hospital in the city of El Centro at a press conference.

According to her, there were 27 people in an SUV vehicle.

The fully occupied car had collided with a truck for as yet unknown cause.

14 people were found dead at the scene of the accident, another person died in the hospital from the injuries.

The accident occurred in Imperial County, near the city of El Centro, about 10 miles from the Mexican border.
