Russia will independently resolve issues of water supply to Crimea, said Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs from the Republic of Crimea.

Commenting on Ukraine's position on the issue of water supply to the peninsula, he noted that Crimeans do not expect Kiev to supply water.

“We are convinced that we will solve this problem ourselves.

Yes, it is difficult now, but the time will come, various mechanisms will be developed, programs for both water supply and water purification will be implemented, and new water sources will appear ... Russia will independently resolve the issue of sustainable water supply to Crimea, "Tsekov said in an interview with RT.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel "1 + 1", said that Ukraine should not supply water to Crimea until the peninsula returns to Kiev's control.

According to Avakov, Kiev does not bear any responsibility for the water supply to Crimea.

According to the senator from Crimea Olga Kovitidi, for the Kiev authorities the peninsula has always been a territory that has nothing to do with the people living there.

“By initiating before the world community the conclusion of the Crimeans in a blockade chain, including a water blockade, official Kiev showed its genuine attitude towards all of us living in Crimea.

The gross violation of human rights by Ukraine against 2.5 million Crimeans, which initially occurred with the tacit consent of the United States and the EU and their satellites, has grown into a systemic violation by the collective West of the rights and freedoms of Crimeans, "the senator said in an interview with RT.

Recall that difficulties with the water supply to Crimea arose in 2014.

In March 2014, a referendum was held, following which the majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula spoke out in favor of the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.

After that, Ukraine closed the sluices of the North Crimean Canal running from the Dnieper, which provided up to 85% of the republic's needs for fresh water.

In subsequent years, residents and enterprises of the region received water from local sources, but in 2020 they partially became shallow due to the low amount of precipitation, drilling of wells and water extraction from underground sources.

As noted by the deputy of the State Duma Ruslan Balbek, for the last seven years Russia itself has been solving the issues of water supply to the peninsula without any dependence on Ukraine.

He added that within the framework of this work, certain difficulties arise, but it was not possible to strangle the peninsula with a water blockade.

“We have come to terms with the fact that the North Crimean Canal is empty, and objectively accept that the Ukrainian government is Russophobic and aggressive.

This means that we will not come to an agreement with them and we will not get water.

And in the same way they got used to the idea that international institutions for the protection of human rights are not worth a lot.

They do not see the water blockade of the peninsula at close range, although this is a medieval approach to the siege of cities, "the deputy said in an interview with RT.

In October 2020, the Russian government, in accordance with the instructions of the president, approved a plan to ensure reliable water supply to Crimea and Sevastopol.

The volume of financing for the plan is about 50 billion rubles.

The work is planned to be carried out in 14 areas, including the development of new water sources, the construction of water intakes, drainage systems and treatment facilities, geological exploration activities, as well as overhaul of existing water supply networks.

In early February, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that in order to implement the plan to provide Crimea with water, about 65 different events are planned.

“The most important area of work in Crimea is the provision of high-quality water supply.

We have approved a separate program.

In total, under this program, we have planned about 65 events, which involve the extraction of water, purification and delivery to all settlements, taking into account the prospects for the development of Crimea, "Khusnullin said at a government meeting.

"Crimea will be provided with reliable water supply"

Crimea will never return to Ukraine, recalled the deputy of the Crimean parliament Aleksey Chernyak.

“We have dealt with all the problems and will continue to deal with them.

With the support that all citizens of Russia, the federal authorities provide us, Crimea will be provided with a reliable and stable water supply, "RIA Novosti Chernyak quotes.

According to him, the Kiev authorities repeat, like a mantra, the same statements about Crimea, where they are not even remembered.

“It's the same every day, it's funny.

The Crimeans knew what they were doing, so no one even thinks to turn off, let alone return, ”Chernyak concluded.
