In Shanxi, China, the coal mine has provided jobs for families for generations.

But the price for the environment has been high.

- My hometown was demolished and everyone was forced to move.

The coal mines undermined the land and made it impossible to stay, says Zhang Zou.

Coal is still the main source of energy in China But a slow shift is taking place to renewable energy in order to achieve Xi Jinping's lofty goal of making China carbon neutral by 2060.

Two years ago, SVT's Asia correspondent was in Shanxi most recently, and the difference is noticeable.

The large mining industries are still running but the awareness of the climate has increased.

The new generation in Shanxi will need to find jobs outside the mining industry to survive.

But in return, the chances are high that they will see the blue sky sometimes.
