Dortmund (AP) - Borussia Dortmund's sports director Michael Zorc has confirmed that Sebastian Kehl will succeed him in this position at the Revierclub from summer 2022.

Zorc welcomed the decision: "He brings a lot to fill this position," said the 58-year-old on Monday.

"That's no longer a surprise for me."

The “Kicker” and the “Bild” newspaper reported on Sunday evening that Kehl and the top management team around club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke had agreed to continue working together by handshake during the week.

Zorc has been working with ex-professional Kehl at BVB for some time.

The 41-year-old ex-professional is currently the head of the licensed player department and has been a potential successor to Zorc since 2018.

Zorc had always emphasized that he wanted to leave the job early.

At Watzke's request, the current Dortmund sports director had postponed his departure for another year due to the corona pandemic.
