  • This Sunday with good weather, the quays of Bordeaux were invaded by onlookers.

  • The authorities are wondering about the need to close them to avoid crowds while the Covid-19 epidemic does not weaken and the beautiful days are coming.

  • If for the prefecture "it is not yet topical", the mayor meets this Monday his teams to discuss the situation.

This Sunday, there was no longer a square of greenery free on the quays of Bordeaux.

Already, in normal times, the quays attract each time the sun shows the tip of its nose on the Gironde capital.

But there, with the weight of the curfew and health restrictions, they were outright invaded.

Walks, picnics, jogging… The people of Bordeaux all had a good reason to go catch some rays of the sun on the banks of the Garonne.

Moreover, the Parisians had the same desire.

But unlike the Bordelais, they had to leave the scene faster than expected with the evacuation of the Seine quays by the police.

A little closer to Bordeaux, in Toulouse, the authorities had anticipated the coup by closing the quays this Sunday and until March 8 to avoid gatherings.

This Monday, the question inevitably arises at the Palais Rohan and the Gironde prefecture, especially since the good weather will be there all week.

"Do everything to avoid" a closure

Pierre Hurmic, the ecological mayor, gathered his teams this morning to discuss the subject after having himself realized the situation this Sunday.

At the end of the day, he should announce new measures to deal with these gatherings.

But according to information from

20 Minutes,

he will not announce the immediate closure of the platforms.

"The objective is to do everything to avoid this because the mayor does not want to penalize all walkers and sportsmen because of the dangerous behavior of some irresponsible", slips the municipality.

Pierre Hurmic points out in particular the establishments which sell beers to take away at the level of the hangars.

Thereupon, he will take new measures after consulting his municipal police.

The town hall of Bordeaux recalls in passing that a decree prohibits the consumption of alcohol on the quays.

"It is not topical" for the prefecture

“They have the right to take away sales, reacts the prefecture, however, they cannot have customers who sit at the bar or on tables.

We will strengthen controls with the arrival of good weather.

Since August 1, the authorities have pronounced 37 administrative closures and 81 formal notices.

Regarding the closing of the docks, the prefect informed

20 Minutes

that "it is not topical" but "that everything can quickly evolve according to the figures of the epidemic.

“Since the start of the health crisis, they have been closed only once, it was during the first confinement.
