Jülich (dpa / lnw) - A truck loaded with oil drums crashed into a guardrail on Autobahn 44 on Monday.
The heavy vehicle overturned in the accident near Jülich and lost the barrels, a police spokesman reported.
The 46-year-old driver was injured in a hospital.
Because of the clean-up work, the motorway was initially fully closed on Monday morning - the police assumed it would take hours.
The emergency services tried to divert the traffic and clear the traffic jam.
