Erfurt (dpa / th) - Before the federal-state conference on Wednesday, Thuringia's restaurateurs and traders insist on hotels, restaurants and businesses being opened as quickly as possible.

"If a concrete plan is not on the table, how the opening perspective is for our industry, this would be completely unacceptable," said the President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) Thuringia, Mark Kühnelt, on Monday.

More than 90 percent of Thuringian entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry expected an opening at Easter.

The Thuringian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in Erfurt demanded openings that will take place at the latest with the new regulation from mid-March.

"Otherwise we will experience incurable breaks and a lasting, general change in mood in many areas."

Regardless of whether it is in retail, gastronomy, accommodation, cultural workers or in other industries - the corona crisis is leaving deep traces in the entire medium-sized business sector, which is deeply affecting the substance, according to the Erfurt Chamber.

More than half (56 percent) of the companies in northern, central and western Thuringia see themselves in financial difficulties.

Many companies had fought their way through from month to month and were now "economically with their backs to the wall".

In particular, small family-run hotels and restaurants, stationary retail or the event industry, which have not been able to open for several months, are at great risk.

"We still do not fail to recognize that we are in a pandemic situation," said Dehoga President Kühnelt.

The risk from the hospitality industry has been proven to be low.

He therefore called for a “step-by-step plan based on current knowledge”.

Politicians must ensure “that the hospitality industry does not remain closed for a day longer than is urgently medically required”, said Kühnelt.
