The police were alerted to Märsta, in Sigtuna municipality, at 01.30 after alarms about loud bangs in the area.

An hour and a half later, a deceased person was found with what the police consider to be gunshot wounds.

The victim has been under for eighteen years and is already known to the police.

- What we have seen in recent years is that it is very young people who are involved in firearm violence.

It is not uncommon for such young people to be both perpetrators and those who are the subject of the shooting, says Christoffer Bohman, local area police chief in Sollentuna.

Investigates connections to fire

Earlier in the night, a fire broke out in the auditorium at the Sigtuna boarding school for humanities.

The police suspect that the fire was started and have looked at whether it can be linked to the shooting that took place shortly afterwards.

- We do not rule it out, but there is nothing concrete that indicates that these events should have anything to do with each other, says Christoffer Bohman.

During the past year, several murders have occurred in the surroundings around Märsta.

No later than 18 January this year, a person was shot dead at a restaurant in the municipal part of Valsta.

- I fully understand that the events last night and recently have shaken society, says Christoffer Bohman.

- We have been very present during the past year and above all worked against the (criminal) network in Märsta.

We work in close collaboration with all actors who can influence this both in the short and long term.

No suspects

The police state that they are working extensively with the investigation and several units have been at the place where the dead person was found during the day.

There is no suspected perpetrator at the moment, but connections to previous events are being investigated.

- We look at connections to all matters, but if there is someone at the moment, it is far too close to say anything about it.

The investigation will simply show that, says Christoffer Bohman.
