Ostie (dpa / bb) - The Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 started the second Champions League main round with a draw.

The German water polo record champions came on Monday in Ostia near Rome against CN Marseille to a 7: 7 (3: 1, 2: 2, 1: 2, 1: 2).

After the three defeats of the Berliners in the group of six in the first tournament in mid-December at the same place, the two previously pointless teams remain in the last two ranks of Group A.

Against Marseille, more would have been possible for Spandau.

After the 1-0 lead by Marino Cagalj, the Berliners led consistently and only let the French catch up at 6: 6 and 7: 7.

In addition to Cagalj, Dmitri Kholod (3), Mateo Cuk (2) and Maurice Jüngling met for Spandau.

The team of coach Kovacevic presented itself especially in the defense with a brilliant goalkeeper Laszlo Baksa.

Spandau's chances of qualifying for the final eight tournament in Hanover at the beginning of June are still minimal.

After the game against Marseille, the games against CC Ortiga (Tuesday), Jug Dubrovnik (Wednesday) and Olympiacos (Thursday) will follow until Thursday.

In April, the third tournament of the main round is in Ostia with games against Genoa, Marseille and Ortigia.
