Hamburg (dpa / lno) - In order to be able to better check compliance with the corona rules, the Hamburg Police Union (GdP) has called for more joint controls with the respective specialist authorities.

In the past few months, "a lot of competence confusion" has shown during the operations, said Hamburg's GdP boss Horst Niens on Monday the German press agency.

"More so-called joint assignments, with which the technical skills are brought on board, would be more correct."

These could be representatives of the trade, health or regulatory authorities as well as customs.

The background is that the officials cannot know all the legal bases and the industry-specific subtleties of the Corona containment regulation.

"If I had someone from the district office with me during the checks in barbershops, for example, it would be a glimpse for them and I would have to work for a long time."

This teamwork could give the police "more options for controls" even after the pandemic.

"We should learn from the Corona period for the future," said Niens.

In order to make these joint operations possible in the future, the Hamburg Police Act must be adapted.

"These joint missions are already common in Berlin."
