Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Consumer prices have risen in North Rhine-Westphalia in the corona pandemic.

In February 2021 they were 1.3 percent higher than in the same month last year, as the state statistics office IT.NRW announced on Monday in Düsseldorf.

It is about prices for food and clothing as well as other goods and services for everyday needs, including rents.

It's not about major purchases like a new car.

A reason for the higher prices was not mentioned, but the corona consequences may have played a role - since the beginning of the pandemic, supply chains have shifted at many companies and their work has become more expensive.

There are also other reasons for the increased prices - for example, fuels became more expensive at the beginning of the year due to the tightening of emissions trading.

Compared to February 2020, liquid gas (14.2 percent), bedding plants (10.1 percent) and chocolate bars (9 percent) were offered significantly more expensive.

Furniture and women's clothing also became more expensive, if only slightly.

The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages climbed by an average of 1.1 percent.
