Munich (dpa) - The health ministers of the federal states want to loosen the restrictions on visits to retirement and nursing homes.

The people there should be given more freedom after corona vaccinations, said Bavaria's Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) on Monday after consulting with his counterparts.

The proposal is now going to the Prime Minister's Conference, which this Wednesday wants to discuss the next steps in the Corona crisis with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

Restrictions currently apply nationwide in old people's and nursing homes, with regional differences.

In Bavaria, for example, each resident is only allowed to receive one visitor per day.

Now the health ministers want to expand the number of visits two weeks after a second vaccination and when the vaccination rate is high for residents.

As soon as corona infections are reported, however, the ban on visits should remain as before.

"It is important that there is no concrete outbreak and that hygiene and test concepts continue to be implemented consistently," said Holetschek.

“The people in the nursing homes have had to cut back a lot in the past few months.

It is important to me that nobody gets lonely in the facilities. "
