China News Service, March 1st. According to AFP reports, on March 1, local time, a French court convicted former President Nicolas Sarkozy for corruption and personal gain and sentenced him to three years in prison, including two years of probation.

Sarkozy served as President of France from 2007 to 2012.

He was accused in 2013 of illegally accepting funding from the late heir Liliana Bettencourt of L'Oréal in the 2007 presidential campaign.

Sarkozy was also accused of obtaining inside information related to the above-mentioned case and promising to obtain a "easy Monaco position" for Azibel.

At that time, Azibel was an influential criminal court judge and was believed to be aware of the progress of the case.

On December 8, 2020 local time, French prosecutors demanded that Sarkozy be sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment with a probation of 2 years.

The prosecution also asked the co-defendants in the case Herzog and Azibel to accept the same punishment.
